Ellsworth Jr/Sr High School (EJSHS) proudly serves 307 students in grades 7–12, offering a close-knit learning environment with an 11:1 student-to-staff ratio. The school is led by a dedicated administrative team consisting of a principal, assistant principal/athletic director, and two counselors, supported by 30 certified teachers and 18 classified staff members, including professionals from the Central Kansas Cooperative in Education, who work collaboratively to ensure every student’s academic and personal success.

EJSHS provides a comprehensive academic experience that challenges and prepares students for college, careers, and life. Advanced courses such as Calculus, Anatomy & Physiology I & II, and Chemistry I & II complement dual-credit college offerings in College Algebra, English Composition I & II, Public Speaking, Psychology, and Sociology. The school also features 13 Career and Technical Education (CTE) Pathways, including Business Finance, Comprehensive Agriculture, Animal Science, Industrial Technology, AV Communications, Family and Consumer Sciences, Health Science, and Natural Resources. Students can explore progressive electives in Robotics, Computer Programming, Game Design, Business Law, Entrepreneurship, CAD Drafting, 2D Animation, and Horticulture, ensuring a well-rounded and future-focused education. The Fine Arts program further enhances creativity and expression through courses such as Band, Choir, Guitar, Stage Crafting, Graphic Design, Ceramics, Jewelry Making, and Theater.

A strong emphasis on Career and Life Planning sets EJSHS apart. Each student in grades 7–12 meets twice a week in small advisory groups with a 12:1 ratio, receiving personalized guidance and mentorship. Using the Xello college and career readiness platform, students explore pathways aligned to their interests and strengths, supported by academic and mental health counselors who provide comprehensive support. The district’s CTE Coordinator further enhances opportunities through partnerships, internships, and hands-on career experiences.

EJSHS also takes pride in its wide range of co-curricular and extra-curricular programs that develop leadership, teamwork, and service. The premiere FFA program provides authentic agricultural learning and community engagement opportunities, while the nationally recognized FCCLA program empowers students to lead and make meaningful contributions in family and consumer sciences. The growing FBLA chapter introduces students to the world of business, entrepreneurship, and finance. The strong, state-recognized Student Council serves as a model of student leadership and civic involvement, shaping a positive and inclusive school culture. In addition, the school maintains a robust National Honor Society chapter, honoring students who demonstrate excellence in scholarship, leadership, character, and service.

Athletics play a vital role in student life at EJSHS, where highly competitive teams represent the school with pride across multiple sports and seasons. Junior high and high school athletes participate in Cross Country, Football, Girls Tennis, and Volleyball in the fall; Basketball and Boys and Girls Wrestling in the winter; and Baseball, Softball, Track, Boys Tennis, Boys and Girls Golf, and Junior High Tennis in the spring. These programs emphasize discipline, sportsmanship, and teamwork, fostering both school spirit and personal growth.
