Just a day after the JV won their home invitational, the varsity tennis team followed up by also winning their home opener. Lady Bearcats tallied a total of 60 team points for first place, just finishing ahead of Conway Springs who had 59 team points.
On the #2 side, singles player, junior Elena Jundt persevered through a couple of tough matches with a come-from-behind win to finish with a 3-1 record and in 3rd place. Freshmen doubles players Karli Haase and Hannah Vague finished the evening with a tie-break win over Conway Springs. They ended with a 3-0 record and a first place finish.
On the #1 side, singles player, sophomore Felis De La Cruz was the last one on the court for the evening and finished with a grueling tie-break victory over Central Plains. She finished in 3rd place with a 3-1 record. Junior Inarie Rippert and Freshman Reygan Coonrod finished a great evening of tennis with a 3-0 record and won their championship match against Central Plains 8-4 to finish in 1st place.
Overall it was a gutsy team performance that earned the team a first place finish at home, which has not happened in a long time!
"This was the first time in my 23 seasons as the coach that our team has accomplished this feat." -Coach Anderson.
